Delhi is known for new changes and amendments from time to time. Recently, a new good move by the government of Delhi has taken place in the form of Electric buses. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal has flagged off the first electric bus in the service of Delhiites Yesterday,17th of January, this year. He said that it’s the “beginning of a new era” during the induction ceremony of the DTC electric bus at Indraprastha Bus Depot of Delhi Transport Corporation.

More electric buses will come soon to the DTC bus fleet in order to curb the pollution of the city. This induction ceremony was held in the presence of Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Chief Minister of Delhi with the managing director of IP depot.

The Chief Minister said that this is “an important milestone” in the landscape of Delhi Transport. He added that the government of Delhi will only induct electric vehicles from now onwards, it will provide a pollution-free ride to the citizens of Delhi.

He added that a jinx has now been broken with the induction of this bus to the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation after 2011.

Kejriwal has said that more and more electric buses will come soon and will replace the old fleet of buses in the capital.

The new vehicle is noiseless and zero-emission, he said further. The bus can quickly charge fully in just 1-1.5 hours and after that, it can easily cover a distance of over 120 kilometers in one complete charge.

According to the Chief Minister, about 300 buses will arrive by April and we plan to roll out 200 more such buses in the next few years, he added.

This prototype bus that arrived earlier this month, will cover a total 27 km route with the name E44. It will start from IP Depot to Pragati Maidan via ITO, Safdarjung Hospital, and Ashram. The vehicle is manufactured by JBM Auto Limited.

Fifty more e-buses will arrive by the next month and be inducted into the fleet of DTC, once the roll-out for mass public transport starts after the expected decline of the Omicron variant.

In the complete fleet of DTC electric buses, there are a total of 2300 out of which 1300 will be procured by the Delhi Transport Corporation and the rest 1000 will be operated by the Cluster system.

The transport department of Delhi will install e-charging stations for electric buses in the depots of Delhi Transport Corporation. It will be done in a graded manner.
